THIS IS HILARIOUS: Republicans are panicking over the success of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and Trump’s own embrace of him is making it so much worse.
For over a year, the GOP bet big on making Mamdani the boogeyman of the 2026 midterms, running ads in dozens of swing seats tying Democratic candidates to the democratic socialist mayor and warning of a “radical-left earthquake.”
Read that again.
Now that strategy is falling apart on two fronts at once.
First, Mamdani himself just won’t stop succeeding. Polling shows him sitting at 60 percent favorability in New York City. A GOP operative working for a New York Republican super PAC admitted, “Mamdani is one of the most popular politicians on planet earth right now.”
Second, Trump keeps embracing him. The president stood beside Mamdani at Gracie Mansion and said the mayor has “great potential” and that he’s rooting for his success. Trump has also refused to back Republicans’ harshest attacks on Mamdani in the past.
Think about that.
Republicans built their entire midterm villain strategy around this man. And their own party’s leader keeps complimenting him on camera.
It’s already wrecking campaigns. New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman built his strategy around tying his opponent to Mamdani. One Republican operative admitted the Trump-Mamdani dynamic is “very bad for him,” saying it “really deflates his entire campaign basis.”
They built their villain. Voters like him. And their own president won’t stop hyping him up.
