THIS IS INSANE: Trump personally showed Xi Jinping a mocking photo of Joe Biden inside the White House, and Xi laughed right along with him.
During Xi’s visit to Washington Wednesday, Trump personally guided him through a commemorative space displaying portraits of past presidents. When they reached a photo mocking Biden, referring to him with the derisive “auto pen” nickname Trump has used to criticize Biden’s decision making, Xi chuckled and said, “Haha.”
Read that again. The sitting President of the United States is using a display inside the White House to mock a former American president, and showing it off to a foreign head of state, who then laughed at the joke.
This isn’t the first time the photo has drawn attention either. When Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited in March, she also burst into laughter at the same image, and it drew criticism then too.
Trump didn’t stop there. He also pointed to a photo of himself shaking hands with Xi and joked, “Who is that person? I can’t recognize him,” before adding, “We respect you” and “We hang the photo of the two of us all year round.”
The full visit included a welcoming ceremony, a military guard inspection, and a tour of a newly built White House helipad, all before Xi departed after roughly three and a half hours. The two leaders are set to reconvene for a state dinner that evening.
Meanwhile, Trump used part of his time with a foreign adversary’s leader to mock a former American president inside America’s own house.
