Jack Smith did what few people in Washington are willing to do. He said it plainly, on the record, with the whole country watching.
In his testimony before Congress, Smith said his investigation “developed proof beyond
a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation.”
Proof beyond a reasonable doubt. That’s the highest legal standard there is.
Then he laid out exactly what he meant.
“Rather than accept his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results and prevent the lawful transfer of power.”
Think about that.
This isn’t a cable news pundit or a political opponent. This is
the prosecutor who led the federal investigation, the person who saw the evidence firsthand, saying it under oath in front of lawmakers.
And he isn’t backing down or softening it.
Smith knows exactly who he’s talking about, and exactly what the consequences could be for saying it out loud. He said it anyway.
That takes courage.
Thank you, Jack Smith, for telling the truth.
